Welcome back. I have been looking forward for this interview for months. Dr. Karthik Kashyap is one of the top 3 psychiatrists of Bangalore. He has a glorious 21 years' experience in his field. He has treated mental health issues among children, adults and seniors. Dr Kashyap (MBBS DPM DNB MNAMS EIPS Neuro Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist) is an absolute genius in his field. Getting an appointment for this interview has been one of the key moments in my life. Dr speaks straight to the point, no sugar coating, crisp and calls a spade a spade. He is also keen on spreading awareness among parents not to take mental health issues of their children lightly.
There is a lot of stigma around mental health issues of our children in general. Parents are hesitant, sometimes in denial about accepting the challenges faced by their children. Even educators and institutions who are also considered to play a huge role in shape the students must be typically aware of these common challenges and help them to navigate through this. We are living in a day and age that is fast moving towards advancement and progression in every aspect and every field. We need to break the shackles and age-old norms while raising our kids.
There are several burning questions that need answers. But the answers need to come from an expert, who is medically certified to answer them. Not random people or our mindless Googling. We need proper guidance to help our children overcome their everyday challenges. This is where our doctor helps us. The questions asked in the interview are very basic, real and most relevant. I am sure any person who is reading this right now has several question running on their minds without having proper clarity.
Over the past few weeks I sent out Google forms to my friends and family on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and different social media platforms asking them to help me frame the most asked questions about young children. What are challenges they face as parents and educators. The response was outpouring. I tried to pick up the most commonly asked questions and discussed it with Dr. Kashyap. He has given a wonderful perspective and tried to explain the most complex problems in the simplest possible way.
