Children are always synonymous with the word creativity! Yes, believe it or not you can get as creative as possible with all the materials available at home and that too with zero cost. These activities can be performed with toddlers and up to the age of 6. You can also spend some quality time with children taking a break from controlling and correcting them!

Vegetable art

Vegetables are our regulars. Children hate them. Yes, I am being blunt. They. hate. Them. Even if we don't eat them, somehow, we want our children to eat their vegetables. (Yes, I am guilty). How do we get them to like it? Now, in order to develop curiosity and creativity you have to market that product well. It's time to be smart parents not hardworking parents. You can create wonderful art using vegetables by simply cutting them and arranging them in a certain way. You need not be an artistic person (I have terribly failed in art) to do this activity, but this can definitely boost children's creativity and generate certain amount of curiosity and well you can trick them to eat too! Here are a few ways in which the vegetables can be used.

You can go as creative and also encourage children to bring out their best. This activity is best suited for all the age groups. Children up to grade 2 can enjoy this activity. Do not forget to trick children to eat them!

Treasure hunt for numbers/items

If your children are starting to read sentences, this activity is best suited to them. If they are reluctant readers, then you can try this activity to convince them to read. This activity will be divided into two phases.

  1. For kids who are under 6 years of age and still cannot read, you can just draw the pictures of the object you want them to visit. For example, if you have hidden a number/object behind TV just draw TV on the clue chit. Once they reach the TV unit, they will find another chit which will have the clue of the next chit. Like that you can keep around 10 clues around the house, balcony garden anywhere you want. This activity does not require any wording just simple plain drawings. Once they reach their destination, that is last clue give a small surprise like their favourite chocolate or a surprise toy. You can place numbers from 1 to 10 or any sequential concept as the treasure hunt and clue chit filled with drawings. (Age group: Kindergarten)

  2. For the kids above 6 years of age, you can do the same activity with clue chits that contain clues written in small sentences. Now that children know they have to search something, they will make efforts to read the clue. You can give hints, if you have a very smart kid, you can also write some riddles as clue. You can be as creative as possible. Just ensure that this game makes maximum utilization of their skill. You can hide numbers, sight words, anything related to their lessons. Again, at the end of the last clue chit, place a small surprise for them to motivate and encourage the little ones. Posting a picture of the same activity I did with my son some time back. He enjoyed it so much.
